Can Time stand still? Watch Clockmaker Joyce of Whitchurch track the growth of empire. Starting with Shropshire church clocks including Whitchurch, Bronnington and beyond to Shocklach school, Lime Street Station and Manchester Royal Exchange, then on to Sydney, Australia, India and South Africa, over the centuries Joyce’s clocks mark time across the globe. What human stories unfold under those clocks? Does Time run out? Do the ‘pips’ spell the end of time for mechanical clocks?

Baritone Peter Edge plays Joyce from 1690 to the present day in Martin Bussey’s exploration of Time and its messages, to a backdrop of specially commissioned images by Laurel Turton. Peter and Martin introduce and perform this episode in Time accompanied by clarinet, viola and marimba.
