Music and the Land—Bach and the Ecology of Listening

How do the wonders of nature inform our ways of listening and artistic expression? The first part of this seminar, led by the world-renowned and prestigious maestro Sir John Eliot Gardiner, uses the music of Bach as a starting point to explore the intricate connections between music, nature and the ecological environment. After a participatory listening exercise with the audience, local artists/practitioners will join the discussion, reflecting on the relationship between music and the body, the mind, the land and the natural world. Through this seminar, participants will learn not only to listen with their ears, but also by developing a close connection to nature.
